What is RiteMed sildenafil?

It is sildenafil citrate, the active ingredient in Viagra, marketed under the RiteMed name. RiteMed was set up by Unilab in 2002 to sell generics at lower prices under one familiar brand, and its products are stocked by drugstores across the country, from the big chains to provincial pharmacies.

RiteMed's product page does not name the factory that makes this tablet. The manufacturer and registration holder are listed on the FDA Philippines product registration and printed on the box.

Like all sildenafil, it blocks the PDE5 enzyme so that blood can flow into the penis when you are sexually aroused. It does not create desire or an erection by itself. Our sildenafil guide covers how it works and who should avoid it.

Is RiteMed sildenafil registered with the FDA Philippines?

Check on the FDA Verification Portal at verification.fda.gov.ph. Choose drug products and search "sildenafil": registered products appear with their registration number, holder and manufacturer, and you can match RiteMed's entries to your box.

We have not quoted a registration number because we have not seen one we can cite, and the portal always has the current record. Any familiar brand name can be copied, so if a "RiteMed" product comes from a source that does not ask for a prescription, do not use it. See how to spot fake ED pills.

How much is RiteMed sildenafil in the Philippines?

RiteMed's own suggested retail price for 50 mg was ₱155 a tablet. The 100 mg was listed at ₱250.75 at Watsons and ₱250.25 at Rose Pharmacy.

RiteMed sits in the middle of the market. It costs a fraction of Viagra, which was ₱915 a tablet for 50 mg at Watsons, but more than the cheapest verified 50 mg generic, ₱49 (Erecto, TGP). At 100 mg, the cheapest verified tablet was ₱51 (Spiagra, TGP). Many men choose RiteMed because it is easy to find in any town and the price is printed as an SRP. Every brand is compared on the sildenafil price page.

What strengths does RiteMed sildenafil come in?

RiteMed lists two strengths:

  • 50 mg film-coated tablet, box of 5 in individual blisters
  • 100 mg film-coated tablet, box of 5 in individual blisters

Watsons and Rose Pharmacy list it per tablet. Which strength is right for you depends on your age, heart, liver and kidney health and your other medicines, so it is decided by your doctor.

RiteMed sildenafil vs Viagra: is there a difference?

The active ingredient is identical: both are sildenafil citrate. A generic registered in the Philippines must show bioequivalence, meaning the same amount of sildenafil reaches the blood, at about the same rate, as the original.

What differs:

  • Price. Viagra 50 mg costs several times the RiteMed SRP for 50 mg.
  • Maker. Viagra is the originator, first sold by Pfizer. RiteMed is a local generics company; its manufacturer is named on the registration.
  • Look and fillers. The tablet's colour, shape and inactive ingredients differ. These do not change how the medicine works.
  • Availability. RiteMed is distributed widely across the provinces, which helps if you live far from a big Watsons or Mercury Drug.

For more on the originator, see our Viagra page. Other common generics include Zilden and Erecto.

Can you use RiteMed sildenafil if you have diabetes or high blood pressure?

Often yes, but only after a doctor has checked. Diabetes and hypertension are among the most common causes of ED in Filipino men, and many men who need sildenafil are already on maintenance medicines for one or both.

Sildenafil can lower blood pressure a little on its own, and more so with alpha blockers (used for blood pressure or an enlarged prostate). Most other blood pressure and diabetes medicines are not a problem, but your doctor needs the full list, including anything from a barangay health centre. ED can also be an early warning of heart disease, so a consultation is a good moment to check blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure.

How should you store RiteMed sildenafil in the Philippine heat?

Follow the storage line printed on the box, keep the tablets in their blisters until use, and keep them away from children. A bathroom cabinet or a car glovebox in April is too hot and humid.

If a tablet looks cracked, discoloured or damp, do not use it; return it to the pharmacy. Never move tablets into an unlabelled container: if you ever need emergency care, the box tells the doctor exactly what you took.

What are the side effects of RiteMed sildenafil?

They are the same as for any sildenafil. Common effects are headache, flushing, a blocked nose, indigestion and dizziness, usually lasting a few hours.

Some men see a blue tinge or become sensitive to light. Serious effects are rare but need urgent care: an erection lasting more than 4 hours, sudden vision or hearing loss, or chest pain. Sildenafil interacts with nitrates, alpha blockers used for blood pressure or the prostate, and some antifungal and HIV medicines. Read more in ED medicine side effects and safety.

How do you get a prescription for RiteMed sildenafil?

You need a prescription from a licensed doctor. A GP, internist or urologist can write one, and so can a telehealth doctor after an online consultation, which suits men who work night shifts or prefer not to discuss ED at the local clinic.

Our guide to whether Viagra is over the counter explains the rules in the Philippines, and online ED consultations compares the services. A doctor will also check for diabetes, hypertension and heart disease, which commonly sit behind ED.
